Care Instructions – How to Maintain Your Artwork in the Best Possible Way

Proper maintenance requires both time and attention, but it helps preserve your pieces for the long term — perhaps even for future generations. Here are some helpful tips to ensure your artwork remains in excellent condition.
Keep your artwork away from direct sunlight
Our UV-resistant canvas prints and sound-absorbing wall art are specially designed to withstand harmful ultraviolet (UV) light, which can cause fading and material damage over time. While UV-resistant artwork is more durable than non–UV-resistant pieces, it is not completely immune to the long-term effects of direct sunlight. Excessive sun exposure can still lead to heat-related damage and premature aging of the frame or other materials.
Oil paintings, known for their richness and longevity, are also sensitive to sunlight. Prolonged exposure may cause color fading, cracking, flaking, and deterioration of the frame.
By avoiding direct sunlight, you help ensure your artwork remains vibrant and well-preserved. If avoiding sunlight entirely isn’t possible, try to minimize exposure as much as you can.
Avoid temperature fluctuations
Materials such as canvas, wood, and paint expand and contract when exposed to temperature changes. Over time, this movement can cause cracks or structural damage. Hang your artwork in areas where the temperature remains relatively stable. If that’s not possible, try to limit extreme variations as much as you can.
Keep artwork away from heat sources
Avoid placing your artwork near fireplaces, radiators, heaters, or ovens. Heat can affect the longevity of both paint and canvas, potentially causing warping or weakening of materials.
Dust gently using a soft cloth or brush
Dust buildup can harm the artwork, so regular cleaning is essential.
For canvas prints or sound-absorbing wall art, do not use a vacuum. Instead, gently wipe the surface using a soft, slightly damp cloth.
For oil paintings, use a soft, clean brush — such as an artist’s brush or a makeup brush — to carefully remove dust. Start from the top and work your way down. Be especially gentle around areas where the paint may be cracked or fragile.
Tightening a loose canvas
If the canvas on your artwork becomes loose, you can follow these steps:
a) Remove the artwork from the wall and place it face-down on a clean, flat surface.
b) Check the frame to ensure it’s intact and undamaged — a compromised frame can affect canvas tension.
c) All our artworks include small wooden wedges in the corners of the frame. These can be gently tapped in with a small hammer to increase tension. Ensure you do this evenly on all corners to avoid distortion.
d) If additional tightening is needed, lightly moisten the back of the canvas with a clean, damp sponge. As it dries, the canvas will contract and tighten. Use this method sparingly to avoid damaging the fabric or paint.
